Our vineyard is situated on the eastern slopes of a small range of hills north of the Bass River Valley 98 km southeast of Melbourne, Australia. At 60 metres above sea level and at 38° 36" south, the vineyard is located in a cool temperate coastal zone close to the bass Coast. The climate and soils of the Gippsland region have long been recognised for producing the finest dairy products. The growing demand for wine has seen a steady increase in some of this exceptional land given over to the production of premium wines. Bass Valley Estate is owned by the Cutler family, who established this boutique winery in 1991, with plantings of Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Pinot Noir. The building of the winery began in 1994 and our first vintage wine was released in 1995. Winery extensions were completed in June 2000 and this has enabled our yearly output to range from 25 to 30 tonnes. Our head winemaker is Roger Cutler and he is involved in viticulture management and all aspects of our wine making. All wine is produced from estate grown fruit, vintage and varietal in character. The wines from these vintages are gaining national and some international recognition as excellent quality, cool climate table wines of distinction.
